Why Learn or Play Piano?

Ah, the timeless question. Why should you learn to play the piano? Well, there are infinitely many reasons why you should. Three of them are outlined below.

1. Piano, contrary to popular belief, is not hard to master at all. When you first buy a piano, you already know how to play it. Why? Because you just need to push the keys and voila - Music! Unlike many other instruments, piano doesn't require you to learn the right preparatory technique in order to make music.

The first time I played the piano, I immediately realized how easy it was. With my eager little fingers, I touched one key, and the tone resonated throughout the store. Even at 7 years old, I knew I wanted to learn to play the instrument.

However, the first time I played the trumpet, I found that I couldn't purse my mouth the right way. For the next few lessons, I couldn't make any noise that remotely sounded like music. Eventually, my interest in trumpet waned, and I never picked up the trumpet again.

Of course, these events shaped my personal experience only, and surely, they don't apply to everyone. However, one fact remains: many other instruments require special techniques, while piano does not. Therefore, as long as you can count 10 fingers, you can master the piano.

2. Still hesitant to learn piano? I understand. Most people shudder when they see the number of notes they have to play in one song. But everyone has to start somewhere, and even the best pianists started as a lowly, lowly pianees (piano+trainee). They had to learn the basics; I had to learn the basics; thus, you must learn the basics. It's not easy, but through practice, you'll reap the fruits of your labor and impress your friends at the same time. =)

3. It's never too late to start learning piano! Playing piano, like all routine things, is time-consuming. But it's also a hobby, and once you start playing, it's very hard to put it down. I know that piano is hard; I've been there. There are the ups, when you realize your innate musical genius, and there are the downs, when you want to quit because you can't play that one song.

But you need to give yourself a chance. Who knows what kind of talent you have if you don't pick up that instrument? Setting your mind is the first step toward success; taking action is the second and most important step. So take action now and with no regrets. Soon, you'll be playing piano in no time, with Resonance Connection to guide you.
