
The starting position, in many situations, is the most basic position that piano players learn. It refers to placing the left hand on the first five keys of the C scale below the Middle C scale (for our purposes, let's call this scale the Bass C Scale) and the right hand on the first five keys of the Middle C scale.

Tip: Although the picture doesn't show it, you need to bend your fingers and rest each finger on a different key, making sure not to touch the black keys (yet).
Once both hands are in position, trying playing some notes. Put steady pressure on one finger (any finger) until you hear a clear tone. Don't move your hand, only finger. Then, pick another finger and repeat. If you have any difficulty, just focus on one hand first (usually the right hand, but it's really to your preference), and then switch.
