Additional Info: Common Bass Accompaniments

Frequently, the Bass Staff itself does not contain the melody of a song, but rather the accompanying chords to support the song. The chords on the Bass Staff are often repeating patterns that, when practiced thoroughly, can be mastered quite easily.

Below is a common bass pattern that accompanies music from the Classical Period.

Alberti Bass

The Alberti Bass pattern is simply repetition of the 1st, 5th, 3rd, and 5th tones of a key.

Example: For C Major, the note pattern is C-G-E-G because C=1, G=5, and E=3.

It is often used in sonatas/sonatinas of the Classical period of music. To master this pattern, you need to skip between notes and never use fingers 2 or 4.
