Opening Melody (first 4 measures)

The first 4 measures of opening melody at the beginning of Unfaithful are shown above. They consist of simple repeating patterns of notes. Broken down, these notes are:
Right Hand: C-D-E-F | E-D-E-D | C-D-E-F | E-D-E
Left Hand: C-G | C-A
| C-G | C-A![]()
When identifying the notes, make sure to watch out for the key signature. There are 3 flats (B
, E
, and A
), which means that every time there's a B, E, or A, you should play a half note lower, or the black key to the left of the note.
The beats are slightly harder to grasp intuitively. However, if you listen to the music, you should be able hear the rhythm of the melody. We can outline this rhythm below by splitting each measure into sections and counting the beats. Each number is the start of one beat and each "a" is a half beat:
Every time a note falls on a line, that note is played at the beginning of the beat. As you can see, not every note falls on a line, so those notes must be played inbetween beats.
Note: the tie (slur) in the left hand part tells us to hold the top note for the entire duration of the measure.
