Lesson 3: Rhythm - Review

  1. Beats/Counts
    • All music needs rhythm, or counts, as in: "1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3..."
    • Beats are counts that have regular, methodical intervals.
    • Different notes have different beats.
    • Number of beats per measure and what note gets one beat is determined by the Time Signature.
  2. Time Signature
    • Time Signature has 2 parts: beats per measure and what note gets one beat.
    • Beats per measure: number of counts per measure
    • What note gets one beat: what type of note counts as 1 beat
    • Beats per measure depends on what note gets one beat
  3. Time Signature Charts
    • Alla Breve = 2/2 Time .
    • Common Time = 4/4 Time.
