Lesson 4: Accidentals - Review
- Accidentals
- An accidental indicates to play a half pitch above/below the written note, depending on the symbol used.
- There are 3 kinds of accidentals: sharps, flats, and naturals.
- Accidentals are sustained throughout a measure.
- Sharps
- Sharps tell us to play one half pitch higher than the written note.
- Flats
- Flats tells us to play one half pitch lower than the written note.
- Naturals
- Naturals tell us to play the note as written.
- Naturals are used to negate the effects of a previous accidental prescribed in the same measure or in the Key Signature.
- Key Signature
- We can write all accidentals in a Key Signature at the beginning of a piece of music.
- The order of sharps is F, C, G, D, A, E, B.
- The order of flats is B, E, A, D, G, C, F.
